GOOD posts such…good things! Today, they start a discussion about a study in the journal of Research in Social Stratification and Mobility, which concludes that kids with large home libraries are more likely to go further in academia. I grew up with a 500+ book (and DVD) home library, which, to me, seems like a rare experience. GOOD wonders how the internet and ebooks will impact this finding down the road; I wonder how libraries have already impacted this finding, and how they can contribute to academic quality in the future.
When it comes to achieving academic success, nothing beats having a supportive lit-friendly family with the $ to have a large home library, but for the minimalist, lit-friendly family…you can take the kids to your local public library and still have successful offspring. It’s a fact!
